Dictionary of Chemical Names and Synonyms
Electronic Edition

by Philip H. Howard
and Michael W. Neal

This CD has the three main sections from the original book version of Dictionary of Chemical Names and Synonyms with the addition of seven browsable keyword indexes, and full-text search, for immediate data access.

Contents

PART I—CAS-Registry-Number-Ordered Base Records

Basic individual chemical records that are ordered by CAS Registry Number and contain the chemical formula, molecular weight, the SMILES (Simplified Molecular Input Line Entry System) chemical structure notation [7] when available, a preferred name (usually the 9th Collective Index [9CI] or common name), and a list of chemical synonyms in alphabetical order. (Please note that all lengthy fields, such as a base record with many synonyms are presented in two-columns.

For easier reading in a computer environment, sort order is ROW MAJOR, i.e., sorted items read from left to right and then down to the next line).

This is the primary section in the software version since the Keyword Indexes and/or Search will automatically direct you to the correct base record if, for example, a synonym, molecular or SMILES formula, or CAS number is entered.

Software features: Full-text Search with Boolean operator support
Keyword Indexes: Comprehensive Index, Chemical Synonyms Index, CAS Registry Index, Chemical Formula Index, SMILES Formula Index
Click and Go Table of Contents: Left Pane Explorer-like icons enable you to instantly go to an section of this Title or any other installed Synapse Chemlib product.

PART II—Chemical Synonym Index

An index of over 150,000 chemical synonyms arranged in alphabetical order that indicate the corresponding CAS Registry Number.

The pages of this section are maintained for your browsing and printing needs. All of the CAS-number references have been converted to hypertext to facilitate jumps to the appropriate base records. Either the Comprehensive or Chemical Synonyms keyword indexes replace the original function provided by this section.

Software features: Full-text Search with Boolean operator support
Keyword Indexes: Pages: Chemical Synonym Index
Hyperlinking: Chemicals to Base-Record Entry in Part I

Part III—Chemical Formula Index

An index of chemical formulas ordered by the Hill system (number of carbons, number of hydrogens and then alphabetical by element) that also indicates the corresponding CAS Registry Numbers.

The pages of this section are maintained for your browsing and printing needs. All of the CAS-number references have been converted to hypertext to facilitate jumps to appropriate base records. Either the Comprehensive or Chemical Formula keyword indexes replace the original function provided by this section.

Software features: Full-text Search with Boolean operator support
Keyword Indexes: Pages: Chemical Formula Index
Hyperlinking: Formulas to Base-Record Entry in Part I
